🚀South Australian Households to Get $63 Less on Electricity Bills

In a final ruling made public today by the independent Australian Energy Regulator, South Australian households and small businesses will see larger-than-anticipated reductions in their electricity bills starting in July. The 2.8% reduction, or $63, for average households and the 8.8% reduction, or $512, for small businesses will assist in relieving the financial strain on consumers. Of all the categories determined by the AER, the 8.8% cut for small businesses represents the largest percentage reduction in the country. The State Government applauds the AER's ruling and points out that the reductions were greater than those suggested by the regulator in its March draft decision, which indicated cuts of 2.5% and 8.2%, respectively, for households and small businesses. The Australian Government's $300 rebates to all residential accounts and the Malinauskas Government's efforts to help vulnerable households manage living expenses will be supplemented by the larger cuts. Additionally, they expose the reckless fear-mongering about prices by the opposition and disprove the supposed experts' predictions of price increases of up to 20%. Minister for Energy and Mining Tom Koutsantonis said “We are building a cleaner, more affordable and reliable energy system and these cuts to consumer bills prove we are getting it right.”
“It will take time to fix Australia’s vulnerability to price shocks, a legacy of the Liberal-National Coalition in Canberra’s decade-long failure to settle on an energy policy.
The complacent Marshall Liberal government bet everything on connecting SA to NSW – where wholesale prices are higher and reliability concerns are bigger and more urgent.
In contrast, we are making SA more resilient by supporting new renewable generators and batteries and by developing our Hydrogen Jobs Plan, which will be essential to shoring up energy security.
South Australians should be wary about the Liberals’ marshmallow promises on nuclear - they may sound sweet but there is no substance to them, only more risk and more delay.
We have chosen a realistic path to decarbonise our economy – and today’s decision reinforces that we are on track”

Every year, the AER independently determines a maximum price known as the Default Market Offer. This price serves as a safety nett for customers who haven't looked around for a better offer and serves as the benchmark for all retail contracts. The primary driver of the AER's draft decision, which is increased supply from renewable energy projects, is lower wholesale costs. The global gas market has also eased as a result of Australia's price cap going into effect and Europe finding alternatives to Russia's supply. The Malinauskas Labour Government's Hydrogen Jobs Plan is expected to enhance dependability; therefore, the Liberals' foolish advocacy of nuclear energy in Australia poses the greatest threat to electricity costs and security. The government of Malinauskas restates its endorsement of nuclear power in nations with constrained decarbonisation opportunities. However, because there are plenty of resources available to develop renewables, there is no evidence that Australian businesses are eager to invest in nuclear. Nuclear power is the most costly form of energy generation and cannot be supplied in time to prevent power shortages as ageing coal-fired plants close, as the country's premier scientific organisation, the CSIRO, confirmed this week.
