🚀New 24-Hour Ph armacies Open in Adelaide to Serve Local Residents

🚀

Three 24-hour pharmacies opened their doors in Adelaide, allowing more than 50,000 South Australians to access medications and health advice after hours.

The Facts:

  • As of 4 July 2024, 26,631 customers visited the Salisbury Plain Chemist Warehouse for service during times when the pharmacy would otherwise be closed.

  • In addition, 15,095 customers attended the Clovelly Park Chemist Warehouse in the expanded hours, and 8,503 customers attended the Norwood National Pharmacies in the hours that the pharmacies weren't previously open.

  • In total, these dispensaries issued 20,683 prescriptions in additional operating hours and received 3,382 telephone inquiries from people seeking advice from a pharmacist or to find out if a product was in stock.

Earlier in 2024, the Malinauskas Labor Government delivered another election commitment by supporting three community pharmacies to extend their opening hours to 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Why It Matters:

If the pharmacies had not been open throughout the night, those customers may have had to attend a busy hospital Emergency Department for the treatment they required.

These pharmacies were selected via a competitive tender process and are geographically located across northern, southern, and central Adelaide, thereby making them highly accessible.

The Government is committing $2.5 million per year to fund this important initiative.

The first pharmacy, the National Pharmacies at Norwood started on February 4, operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This was followed by the Chemist Warehouse pharmacies at Salisbury Plain and Clovelly Park on March 4.

Of course each of the three pharmacies is manned by a pharmacist who is always on duty 24 hours a day to offer expert advice and professional service regarding the dispensing of prescription medications.

 Bottom Line :

This project aims at increasing accessibility to key healthcare services for the residents of Adelaide, especially in times of emergency. Pharmacies that operate 24/7 bring relief and assurance to those needing medical attention after regular business hours.
