The South Australian Tourism Commission (SATC) has named David Koch as its new chair. Mr. Koch is a well-known financial analyst and ardent supporter of small businesses. He is a native South Australian and works in the media. He has served as the Port Adelaide Football Club's chair since 2012 and serves as Executive Chairman of Pinstripe Media. For more than 20 years, Mr. Koch hosted the Seven Network's Sunrise programme. As Chair, Mr. Koch will collaborate with the SATC Board to establish the Commission's strategic plan. The Commission is a separate statutory body that is run in accordance with the South Australian Tourism Commission Act 1993. Effective July 2, 2024, the appointment is for a three-year term. Mr. Koch takes over as SATC Chair from Mr. Andrew Bullock, who held the position since 2019. David Koch, newly appointed Chair of SATC said “We have so many advantages in South Australia that make us an ideal destination for holidaymakers.”
“We do the best food and wine in the nation, and we have some of the nation’s most spectacular regions.
We also retain a reputation for delivering first-class major events and festivals.
More recently, the perceptions of Adelaide and South Australia have shifted significantly on the east coast – and we have an opportunity to capitalise on this momentum to grow our tourism sector even further.
I have a passion for small business so a particular focus of mine will be trying to help those in tourism to grow their business through innovation.
I’m excited about the opportunity to Chair the South Australian Tourism Commission and I look forward to working with the Board and the SATC team to market our great State, grow our tourism sector, and support the many businesses that rely upon its success.
Tourism is a huge economic generator and employer for any State which ultimately flows through to providing increased resources for other community services.”

Emma Terry, CEO South Australian Tourism Commission said It’s an exciting time for tourism in South Australia and we have been working closely with industry to build momentum and position South Australia as a destination of choice.
“On behalf of the SATC, we look forward to working with Mr Koch to market South Australia to the world and continuing to grow tourisms contribution to the State.” She said.
Tourism Research Australia's most recent data shows that South Australia's visitor economy recovered strongly from the COVID-19 pandemic, with spending reaching $10.1 billion in the December 2023 quarter—a 20% increase from the $8 billion in the same quarter the previous year. Unprecedented events have also recently taken place in South Australia, including the Santos Tour Down Under, the Fringe and Adelaide Festivals, WOMADelaide, Gather Round, LIV Golf, and Tasting Australia presented by RAA Travel. In an international friendly ahead of the Paris Olympics, the CommBank Matildas will play China PR tomorrow night at Adelaide Oval, marking the first-ever performance of the team. With the SATC aiming to add more direct flights, including from important Asian markets, Emirates will resume direct service to Adelaide later this year.
